A Chance to Try a Novel Concept
Laura from Klikkit asked if I’d like to try out some of their buttons, and I leapt at the chance to do so. The idea of having tangible items within my physical space that acted as visual reminder tools appealed to me. The ability to sync this data to a phone app sounded even better.
My partner’s dad was with us for a few weeks, so I gave him one button for testing purposes. He placed it next to the toaster, as a reminder to take his morning medications. As I’m pretty compliant with my own routines, I decided to be a little experimental and used them to track some daily goals. I paired the green button with the aim of walking at least 30 minutes per day, and the blue one as motivation to improve my living space (even if it’s just tidying up a small corner).
Who the Klikkit Buttons are Great for
I stopped using the buttons after a month or two, as I felt that they weren’t quite necessary given my circumstances and personality. For one, I have never really been into trackers of any sort, be it Fitbit, journaling, or the likes. They neither motivate nor grant me too much extra insight into my habits or patterns. In fact, they stress me out at times as I feel like I must only improve and never regress, or even maintain a standard. (Stupid, I know!)
But I can see how these buttons would be a great asset for certain groups of people. In particular:
- If you’re the sort of person who likes to track habits, patterns, or anything else.
- If you need to store or quantify your data (which can be useful for presenting to your doctors as well).
- If you suffer from brain fog and need something as a physical reminder to do certain tasks.
- If you would like to keep your loved ones up to date about your health or other data.
As someone who lives with chronic illnesses, I can see how these buttons are useful to have in your environment, especially if you struggle with remembering to take your medications.
How the Klikkit Buttons Work, in Brief
The buttons come with skins in various colours, which you can stick onto any object or location. You assign a task to each button on the phone app, then pair them via bluetooth. Whenever you complete that particular task for the day, all you need to do is ‘click’ the button to record it. You can use the buttons for straightforward tasks, or get as creative as you like. They are tools, there to help you achieve your goals.
A Physical Product That’s in Your Actual Environment
I like that I can hold, touch, press and give these buttons their own places in my home. To me, it kind of signifies that this task is real, and not to be forgotten; a brief, silent check every time I walk by. “Have I completed this task for the day?” “Oh yes I have.” *Click!*
Use the Tracked Data to Build Up or Break Habits
You build a repository of your own data on the Klikkit phone app with every click. Over time you will start to see patterns and charts on your progression. Maybe you always forget to take your medications over the weekends, or need to take painkillers if you exceed a certain number of activities. You can then form conclusions based on the information; use it to improve the quality of your life.
Keep Important People Up to Date with Your Health Data
Your loved ones can also download the Klikkit phone app, and you can choose to share your data with them. The business version allows this on a more comprehensive scale, to include your healthcare team. They can view your data online, and even send you notification reminders remotely.
The Klikkit buttons come with a 30 days return policy and two years warranty. So you can give them a trial run if you think that they might be a useful tool for your lifestyle. Take a look at this video for more information. Happy clicking!
