In this issue: The difficulties of navigating life with chronic illness as a healthy looking 18 year old. The fear of waking up from surgery being worse off than before. You can often do some light work as a person with chronic illness, but end up needing days to recover from the activity. The constant stream of fear, vulnerability and worry, and the importance of asking for help. Animals are natural healers who live in the here and now, and are fantastic companions for the sick. Telling a person who’s suffering to ‘try harder’ is misguided; more resources are needed in order to thrive. The dangers of internal ableism, and accepting the need for mobility aids without being defined by them. There is no need to get everything done now or done perfectly; take it one thing at a time. Make some medical info cards for emergency situations where doctors don’t have the time to go through everything in detail. Having a disability or health issues doesn’t spell the end of your sex life, and resources that may help.
