In this issue: Gifts you’d never know about or thought you’d want in another life, if not for chronic illness. Animals are natural healers who bring comfort, joy and companionship. You are not responsible for other people’s emotions and actions; learn to say no for the sake of your own wellbeing. Pain processing in the brain increases from five percent to 15 to 25 percent when it goes from acute to chronic pain. Gentleness isn’t weakness when it’s a choice; it’s a blessing when you choose to embrace your humanity and be kind. Hefty financial bills aren’t the only things you pay for with chronic illness, but also payback time for every expansion of energy and effort. There is no such thing as normal, even though we try to seek some balance in a life with chronic pain. In a world where authenticity is encouraged, it is ironic that those with disabilities and pain are encouraged to fake it. Our pain can fluctuate based on what we do with our thoughts. Support independent spoonie-run businesses and charities and buy gifts from these shops!
