Friday, 03 April 2020. Issue #207.
In this issue: The idea that you will ‘never recover’ is incomprehensible to most people, and chronic illness has no beginning or end. Home is where the…medications are. The possibilities and quality of life that painkillers return to chronic pain patients. After you’ve gone through a bout of bad pain flare, it’s easier to let go and enjoy life a little bit for a while. The irony that self isolation brings – the loneliness can trigger stress, which lowers our immunity to viruses. The current healthy eating narrative is that anti-inflammatory foods are good and inflammation is bad, but the root cause lies with imbalance. A suppressed immune system mounts a slower defence response to invading viruses. It’s okay to feel joy whilst in the midst of your struggles, and also okay if you feel no joy at all. Carers are doing a vital public service; do communicate your needs and concerns with them in this time of social distancing and self-isolation requirements. There is little evidence as to the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine for treating COVID-19, so please stop hoarding or denying autoimmune patients the medications they need to survive.
