Friday, 04 December 2020. Issue #242.
In this issue: The Chronic Illness Christmas Giveaway is now underway, thanks to these 34 lovely sponsors who have contributed up to a hundred gifts! Pain is pain, which we all cope and experience differently; support your fellow human being, there is no need to bring them down. The prize for clear communication, careful compromise, kindness and love is a deeper understanding of who we are as a person. Faith is a mobility impaired artist who wants to lend her hands in the Christmas Giveaway, so she’s giving away two of her abstract paintings worth $300 each! The exhaustion of invisible illness where you need to constantly downplay your symptoms so others feel less uncomfortable around you. The air you breathe is communal, even in your ‘private’ space at the office or restaurant. Not letting depression define you and doing your best to control it, but also accepting and living with it at the same time. Millions of people with invisible disabilities need to live with the burden of its invisibility, where society and even loved ones don’t believe in their pain. “With a sharp taste that’s sweetened by his deliciously dark humour, it is a tonic that deserves to be drunk of deeply and shared widely in these challenging and unprecedented times” – poems by Kevin Higgins, a poet with chronic illness. It’s understandable if you’re feeling lonely this holiday season, and doesn’t mean you’re a failure or unloved.
