Issue #264: Your Lack of Health Does Not Define Your Worth as a Human Being & The Importance of Making Time for Deep Rest with Chronic Illness

In This Issue:

  1. What people with chronic illnesses and disabilities need you to know – that our illnesses and lack of health do not define our worth.
  2. The importance of carving out time for deep rest especially with migraines or chronic illness, which is just as important as ‘doing’ things.
  3. The causes of malabsorption are not always readily apparently, yet the effects can be underestimated and devastating.
  4. The damaging and negative words associated with disability, and the mythical ones related to sex.
  5. Humans need community to survive and thrive, and my painkillers allow me a semblance of a quality of life with chronic pain.
  6. Certain chronic illnesses such as Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are prone to malabsorption, as these disorders directly affect the digestive tract in one way or another.
  7. Taking a nap as an essential pacing strategy so that you can do more after that.
  8. Secretly knowing it’s silly when you turn down an offer for a high quality mobility scooter, because you don’t want to admit that you are sick enough and need it.
  9. Whilst it’s not always possible to do a getaway, you can still find ways to give yourself a break at home.
  10. The irony of the unpredictability of chronic illness, is that it becomes its most predictable aspect; Where everything changes all the time, yet nothing really changes.
