June Writing Prompts for People with Chronic Illnesses & Disabilities

Hello and welcome to the June writing prompts (and summer… and the middle of the year…). Time sure has whizzed by in 2021, wouldn’t you agree? Admittedly, I haven’t been organising my time very efficiently and need to work on that.

I’d love to hear about how you’ve been coping so far this year, and what you’ll be up to this month! I was drowning in work the past two months and wasn’t able to participate in my own linkups. But hopefully I’ll have an entry up for the June writing prompts this month 🙂

As always, I and many other spoonies look forward to reading your June writing prompts, and all your interesting angles and takes on it!

June 2021 Awareness Dates

*Note: This is not a comprehensive list. Let me know if I missed anything out and I’ll add it in!

What The June Writing Prompts are About & How to Participate

The linkups are a monthly get together for anyone with a chronic illness, mental disorder or disability. An opportunity to share, to listen, and to learn from one another through shared writing prompts. I also think it’s a great way to provide insight into life with chronic pain, from many different points of view.

All you have to do is write using at least three of the writing prompts listed below, and publish it on your blog, or to a free writing platform like Medium. Then click on the blue ‘Add Link’ button to add your blog post to this page. Voilà, you’re now part of the linkup party!

2021 June Writing Prompts

  • Only one link submission per website.
  • Do comment on at least two other blog posts in this linkup if you participate. Helping to spread the word on your social media is always appreciated, but not required.
  • Linkups start on the first of every month. There will be five different writing prompts. It will close at the end of each month before midnight. All timings listed are in Singapore time (+8 GMT).
  • Pick at least three of the writing prompts to write about. Five is best, of course! 😉 You can write about your latest experiences with chronic illness, or even turn it into an evergreen blog post.
  • Insert a link to this post when you submit your blog entry for auto verification.
  • Failure to follow these rules might get you blacklisted from future linkups. Let’s keep it fair for all 🙂

  1. Accumulating
Well it’s right smack in the middle of the year; Have you been accumulating anything so far in 2021, be it tangible or otherwise? Perhaps you tend to hoard possessions or are a pack rat. Perhaps you’ve been accumulating a string of chronic illnesses, symptoms or medications. Perhaps certain toxins have been accumulating in your body, mind or environment. You could even be acquiring power moons in Super Mario on your Switch, or some other quest items in another game!
  2. Harmonising
You could be trying to find harmony between your mind and body, or with the surrounding environment. You could be trying to bring aesthetic harmony to an art, musical or floral arrangement. You could also be trying to bring harmony into your household or friendships, or within your own self.
  3. Prioritising
Where do your priorities lie, and are you happy with the way they are? What were your priorities for the year (or your life!), and have you been keeping up with them? Do you prioritise yourself and self-care routines enough? Have you been forced to shift your focus due to an unforeseen circumstance? Perhaps it is a temporary prioritisation that you need to get over and done with, or a good habit that you’d like to make permanent.
  4. Carving
Maybe I should have saved this prompt for Halloween, but anyway, we don’t just have to be carving pumpkins! We could be literally carving wood, meat or pie… Or carving out time figuratively, either for someone else or for yourself. You could also be carving out a career or name for yourself in a certain niche or industry.
  5. Training
Are you taking a course, workshop or teaching yourself a new skill? You could be undergoing training to become a professional or certified instructor or coach. You could be doing it for pleasure, passion, or to acquire knowledge that you think will help you in some way. Are you training your fitness levels, or perhaps the resilience of your mind? You could also be the one who’s training or mentoring others, instead, whether online or offline.
