Issue #275: The Need to Start Adulting Earlier Than Your Peers Due to Chronic Illness & The Fear of Being Pitied as a Young Adult Who Uses a Wheelchair

Friday, 30 July 2021. Issue #275.

In This Issue:

  1. The need to start adulting earlier than your peers because of chronic illness, and the need to advocate for yourself within the healthcare system.
  2. The fear of being pitied by others as a young adult who uses a wheelchair, which removes the illusion of being healthy.
  3. Time flies by in bits and pieces, not quite in well-defined, muscular chunks. Do you have some thoughts to share in the August Linkup?
  4. Most of the vitamin D that Americans take comes from fortified foods in their diets, as few foods naturally contain it.
  5. Think only about what you need to achieve right now, try not to worry, and slowly encourage yourself from there.
  6. Spectra Spray’s sleep spray is one of my favourite tools for better sleep.
  7. The detrimental effects and stigma of pill shaming, and the irony where sometimes the pain relief is more effective when painkillers are taken sooner rather than later.
  8. Using the bed tray table as an easel and medication dispensing cups for water as tools to paint favourite things in the hospital.
  9. Chronic illness does not limit our ability to connect with others from a place of empathy and understanding.
  10. The pain, fatigue and limitations from chronic illness all contribute to suffering on a daily basis in some way.
